Prof. Andrew Moskowitz is Professor of Clinical Psychology at Aarhus University, Denmark and the lead editor of the award-winning book, «Psychosis, trauma and dissociation: Emerging perspectives on severe psychopathology» (Wiley, 2008), whose Spanish edition will be distributed to all those attending the Course. Dr Moskowitz's work is dedicated to enhancing communication between those who study and work with persons with schizophrenia or psychotic disorders, and those who study and work persons with dissociative disorders. Building on the interest over the past decade in traumatic events in schizophrenia, Dr. Moskowitz has published extensively on the dissociative roots of the historical concept of schizophrenia, and on ways on understanding catatonia, auditory hallucinations and delusions from a trauma/dissociation perspective. His research has involved exploring links between measures of dissociation and measures of psychosis in a range of populations, and consideration of similarities between auditory hallucinations experienced by psychiatric patients and non-clinical populations, such as grieving spouses whose partners have died.


Prof. John Read is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Auckland, after 20 years working in the UK, USA and New Zealand as a clinical psychologist, primarily with people diagnosed with 'schizophrenia' or psychosis. He is the head Editor of book «Models of Madness» (2004) for which there is a Spanish translation (Herder, Barcelona, 2006). He is also Editor the ISPS scientific journal Psychosis, and author of «A Straight Talking Introduction to the Causes of Mental Health Problems» (2010). He is member of the Executive Committee of ISPS, the International Society for the Psychological Treatments of Schizophrenia (www.isps.org). In 2010, John received the NZ Psychological Society's Hunter Award for excellence in scholarship and professional accomplishments.


Prof. Colin A. Ross, is psychiatrist and internationally renowned as clinician, researcher, writer and lecturer. For more than a decade he has been the Director of Trauma Programs at three hospitals in the United States (Timberlawn Mental Health System, Dallas, Texas, Forest View Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan and of the Amo Hospital, Torrance, California). He is the author of 23 books and 150 professional papers, most of them dealing with trauma and dissociation. His recent books include: «Trauma Model Therapy: A Treatment Approach for Trauma, Dissociation and Complex Comorbidity», and «Schizophrenia: Innovations in Diagnosis and Treatment.» Dr. Ross proposes that there is a dissociative subtype of schizophrenia characterized by severe childhood trauma, dissociative symptoms, auditory hallucinations and extensive comorbidity. This subtype is treatable with psychotherapy, according to Dr. Ross' theory. The dissociative subtype of schizophrenia is defined additionally by a list of operationalized research criteria. The principles, techniques and strategies of the psychotherapy of dissociative schizophrenia are included in the book, «Trauma Model Therapy.»


Prof. Onno van der Hart is an Honorary Professor of Psychopathology of Chronic Traumatization, Utrecht University, and a psychologist/ psychotherapist at the Sinai Center for Mental Health, Amstelveen, The Netherlands. He has specialized in the diagnostics and treatment of patients with complex trauma-related disorders, including the dissociative disorders, and his consultations, teaching and research are also in this area. He is a past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. With colleagues Ellert Nijenhuis and Kathy Steele, he wrote «The haunted self: Structural dissociation and the treatment of chronic traumatization.» New York/London: Norton, 2006 (Spanish edition: «El yo atormentado: La disociación estructural y el tratamiento de la traumatización crónica.» Bilbao: Desclée de Brouwer).


Prof. Marlene Steinberg, is a psychiatrist and an authority on the diagnosis and treatment of dissociative disorders. As a faculty member of the Yale School of Medicine, developed «The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorders (SCID-D») and «The Interviewer's Guide to the SCID-D» (American Psychiatric Press). Validated under research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the SCID-D represents the psychiatric standard for assessing dissociative symptoms and disorders. She has published many scholarly papers on dissociative phenomena and has served on DSM Work Groups for the revision of the Dissociative Disorder Section and authored many clinical works, including the «Handbook for the Assessment of Dissociation,» and the popular work «The Stranger in the Mirror: Dissociation, The Hidden Epidemic.» (www.strangerinthemirror.com). She currently is Director, Psychological Stress and Trauma Recovery Program of Naples, Florida, consulting to doctors and patients worldwide in the detection and treatment of dissociative disorders.


Prof. Tiburcio Angosto Saura is a Psychiatrist, Chief of the Psychiatric Hospitalization Unit Service of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Vigo. He is an Associate Professor of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and Consultant in Mental Health of the Pan American Mental Health Organization. He has worked as Chief of the Area of Mental Health Services of the Regional Community of Murcia (1990-91) and Chief of the Mental Health Services of the Regional Community of Galicia (1998-2002). He was a member of the National Committee of the Specialty of Psychiatry (1986-1996) and Vice President (1986-1990) and Director of Publications (1990-1993) of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry. Doctor in medicine by the USC (1991) with the doctoral thesis: «Current forms and evolution of clinical aspects of hysteria.»


Prof. Mariano Hernández Monsalve. Psychiatrist and psychotherapists. He has held posts of responsibility in different community mental health services in Madrid. He is currently Chief of the Mental Health Services of Tetuan. He was president of the Asociación Madrileña de Salud Mental (AEN) (Madrid Association
of Mental Health) and of the Asociación Española de Neuropsiquiatría (Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry) and vice president of the Mental Health Europe. Among his recent publications, he is the author of «Dimensión clínica y humana de las enfermedades mentales. Esquizofrenia» and co-author of the monography of the same collection on Bipolar Disorder and of several book chapters in collective works on different aspects of psychosocial rehabilitation. In recent years, he has carried out supervision activity on psychotherapy interventions (integrating perspective) and psychosocial rehabilitation.


Prof. María del Pilar Nieto Degregori is a psychiatrist and psychotherapy. She has carried out her work in different mental health services of the Community of Madrid. He held the post of coordinator of the Adult Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Service of the Hospital de la Cruz Roja (Madrid). She was a committee member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Psychosomatic and Medical Psychotherapy Studies and co-director of the journal of said institute
«Psychotherapy and Pyschosomatics». She is currently a teacher in the master's course of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy of the School of Psychology of the Universidad Complutense, member of the Sociedad Forum de Psicoterapia Psicoanalítica, committee member of the Asociación Madrileña de Rehabilitación Psicosocial (AMRPS). She works as an adult psychiatrist in the Mental Health Service of the district of Tetuan in Madrid and also carries out different supervision activities on individual and group psychotherapy interventions.


Prof. Juan Luís Linares, psychiatrist and psychologist, is a Staff Professor of Psychiatry of the Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona and Director of the Psychotherapy Unit and of the Family Therapy School (Master in Systemic Family Therapy) of the Hospital de San Pablo of Barcelona. Ex President of the Catalan Family Therapy Society of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Family Therapy and of the European Family Therapy Association. He is currently the chair of the Spanish and Latin American Network of Systemic Schools. He organize a research program on family therapy and psychosis.


Prof. Maria Cañete is a psychiatrist, and a psychotherapist consultant and group analyst with 35 years of experience working in mental health. For the last 15 years, she has been director of the group psychotherapy program in a day centre for psychotic patients, in the London district of Tower Hamlets. She has a number of publications in the field. She is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Group Analysis in London on group psychotherapy of psychosis.


Prof. Arturo Ezquerro is a consultant psychiatrist in psychotherapy with 32 years' experience working in mental health. He is head of medical psychotherapy services and tutor for psychiatric trainees in the London district of Brent. He has over 30 publications in the field of group analytic psychotherapy and teaches at the Institute of Group Analysis.


Prof. Elena Cristóbal Linares is a psychologist at the ULL (Universidad de La Laguna) and has a Master in DMT (Dance Movement Therapy) from the UAB (Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona). She is currently director of the Dance Movement Workshop and coordinator of the team, within the Canary Island Association of Creative Therapies for persons with severe mental disorder, users of the Insular Plan for Psychosocial Rehabilitation. She has published a chapter on «Dance Movement Therapy:» «La Danza Movimiento Terapia» in the book «La recuperación de Personas con Trastorno Mental Grave.» Modelo de red de redes, Presente y perspectiva de futuro.» Francisco Rodríguez Pulido (Ed), published and distributed by the Fundación Canaria de Salud y Sanidad de Tenerife (2010). Currently she is participating in a research project of the University of Granada (Spain) on body awareness in psychosis.


Prof. Judith Nierga i Adroher has a master in clinical psychology from the Hospital Clínico of Barcelona and Master in Dance Movement Therapy from the IL3 (Institute for Lifelong Learning) in the University of Barcelona. She is a clinical psychologist in the Adult Day Hospital of Parc Hospitalari Martí i Julià (Institut Assistència Sanitària) in Salt where she carries out different Dance Movement Therapy programs for patients with psychosis, personality disorders and adolescents.


Prof. Maria Fe Bravo Ortiz is a specialist in psychiatry and has a degree in psychology. She has been responsible for the management of two mental health centers in Madrid and is currently Chief of the Psychiatry Service of the Hospital Universitario la Paz and Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry of the UAM. She has been president of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry (AEN) since June 2009 and vice president of the SMES Europa (Mental Health and Social Exclusion). During these years, she has specialized in the comprehensive care and psychosocial aspects of persons with severe mental disorders, with many publications, speeches and communications. Recently, she has coordinated the performance of the Consensus Document of Early Care to Psychosis, financed by the Healthcare and Consumer's Affairs Ministry, published as Technical Notebook of the AEN, and she is currently coordinating the development of the Bipolar Disorder Guidelines of the National Health System within the Quality Plan of the Ministry of Health.


Prof. Carmen Bayón is a psychiatrist, and Associate Professor of the Psychiatry Department of the UAM of Madrid. She has training in systemic therapy, in EMDR and in other useful techniques in the psychotherapy process. She is currently working in the Psychiatry Service of the Hospital Universitario La Paz and for several years in the community setting of mental health in Madrid. She worked as a clinical investigator for 3 years in the area of personality and personality disorders with Prof. C.R. Cloninger in the Department of Psychiatry of the Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. She closely collaborates in the Research Training Unit in Psychotherapy and in the Masters of Psychotherapy having an integrating perspective of the University of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid.


Prof. Manuel González de Chávez is a Professor and Chief of the Psychiatry Service I General University Hospital “Gregorio Marañón” of Madrid and the Complutense University. President of Spanish “Fundación para la investigación y tratamiento de la esquizofrenia y otras psicosis”. He was President of the ISPS, (International Society for the Psychological Treatment of Schizophrenia and other Psychoses), Director of the Mental Health Services of Seville, and President of the Association of Mental Health of Madrid and of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry, of which he is an honorary member. Dedicated to the development of psychotherapeutic programs for psychotic patients, he is the author of different publications on this subject and especially on group psychotherapy in schizophrenia and its importance in the treatment of these patients.
